Bicycle made of paper

September 20th, 2012 at 08:08 am

I want one of this:

Today should make it 3 NSDs in a row.

18 Sept: 10,884 steps
19 Sept: 11,226 steps (DH did the last 500, he decided to put the pedometer on while I was in the shower).

We got laughed at (but it’s all good)

September 18th, 2012 at 07:21 am

Last Friday night when we went out for drinks with some of DH’s co-workers we got talking about mobile phones. One of them was complaining that her phone is a lot slower now because she has too many apps in it, she have tried to delete some of it but was finding it hard to pick which ones. The talk eventually turned to DH’s mobile phone, apparently there has been some friendly banter between them and DH about how old his mobile phone is. They keep asking when he will ever join the 21st century. Then DH would jokingly brag how he only has to plug in his mobile phone once a week whenever someone complain how the battery never last.

Anyway, on Friday I showed everyone my old Nokia 1100 and we all just laughed. DH by the way has the old Nokia 1110. I think we both got them in 2006, so it is now 6 years old. I laugh how it still works even though we have both dropped them many times already. Although in the last few months my alarm clock has not been working but since I don’t really need it these days, it’s not such a big deal. Maybe one day I will upgrade to one of those newer flip phone Wink.

So far this year we’ve only spent $70 on both phones!

17 Sept: 10,065 steps - I did not do too well yesterday, I guess painting doesn’t require much walking. I had to do a bit of walking around the couch to get to 10K. Today I made sure to do a bit of jogging on the spot before I started painting again.

"European Labour Only" Wardrobe

September 17th, 2012 at 02:28 pm

I’ve been really busy. Yesterday we went to my mum’s place to fix her bathroom door, it wasn’t closing properly. Today I’m painting an old wardrobe, I decided to sand it and paint it white. It will go in the guestroom where the other furniture in it is all white. I have not spent money on it so far but I will need to buy a new one handle that is missing an important part. It will probably cost around $6-7, a bit expensive but I have to get the same as the old ones.

Interesting thing I found in one of the drawer of the wardrobe, it has been stamped with some info about where it was made and then it says “European Labour Only”. A quick google and I found some interesting thing I’ve never knew about. Apparently, stamped like these were common from 1900 to 50’s (actually it was compulsory by law to state if a furniture was made by Chinese labour). Crazy to think things like that happened in the past.

http://www.chia.chinesemuseum.com.au/biogs/CH00016b.htm

Hmmm…maybe I shouldn’t have painted it, I didn’t realise it could be really old. I assumed it could have been 1980’s, not 1950’s or even earlier. We got it years ago (just after we moved to this house 11 years ago) from a garage sale. We can’t remember how much for now, would have been less than $50, we couldn’t afford to buy much stuff then. One of the legs had a split and it had one broken handle.

----------------------
DH will be signing his new contract soon. The company have now sent a purchase order (I know I laughed when I heard this) to his agency. Good news is that his and the others in his team will be signing for 2 years from date of the current one expires (they had previously thought it might be from June 30, end of financial year). Unfortunately, some people in other teams have only got renewed for 3 months and some have been given 2- months’ notice. So we are very thankful.

Lunch Date

September 4th, 2012 at 01:48 am

I'm about to go out to meet up with DH for lunch. 2 weeks ago he asked me to go out for lunch in the city but I did not want to go out because it was soo cold. It's amazing how quickly the weather can change. Today it will get to 22 degrees Celcius, so it will be a beautiful day.

I've got my pedometer on already and will be doing a lot of walking around in the city. I hoping I can get to 10,000 steps today.

I've been having a lot of salad lately and been trying new ones. Last night I made Thai green mango salad, it was really nice. According to DH "it's a keeper", which means he'd like to have it again in the future. I put shredded carrot, cashews, string beans, mint and coriander. I was suppose to put tomatoes in it but we didn't have any. For the sauce I put chilli, fish sauce, lemon juice and palm sugar. I used the mortar and pestle to crush and mix the sauce together.

The millionaire next door

August 23rd, 2012 at 04:00 am

Yesterday was NSD.

I'm currently reading The Millionaire Next Door. I caved and bought it for my kindle. I've always wanted to read it but could never find it in the library and did not want to pay $20+ for it. It's a lot cheaper in kindle now, last time I checked it was worth over $12 but last week it was down to $7.46 (AUD). I was happy to pay for that. I'm almost half through reading it so far so good. It is confirming that we are heading the right direction.

Last night

August 10th, 2012 at 06:02 am

We went to my mum’s place again last night. She called me while I was making dinner. I’ve asked her to get me something from her work to give as a birthday present to a friend. Her birthday is not until next month but I’m not sure I will see her next month so I will be giving it to her tonight, it just happened we’ve organised a get together few weeks ago, so it came just in time. I gave my mum $10 for it.

While there I helped my mum make some more empanadas, she is getting more and more orders now. She is actually finding it hard to keep up. Last night she was trying to make 120, one order. She got a friend who does cake decorations of some sort and has an online business for it. Anyway she asked my mum if she wants to put her empanada on her website, my mum actually said no because she is afraid that she won’t be able to do it. I’m actually thinking of getting her an empanada maker, I’m not sure where to get it or if it is even available here in Australia. It will be a good birthday/Christmas present for her. The bread maker has help her make the dough but she still needs to roll it out. I’ve actually got her to try the pasta maker but she didn’t like it because it’s too thin. And our pasta maker is hopeless you pretty much need two people to use it. It’s alright for making small amount of pasta but I think it will get tiresome if you need to make a lot of it.

Also she asked me if I wanted some instant coffee, this was one thing that I wanted to get at Costco, we are half way to our last jar. So I said yes! She got a box of 6/200g jars of Nescafe Gold Blend. She got all of them for $40 so less than $7 a jar. I just looked on-line and they are around $16-18 a jar at the supermarket. At Costco a similar type would probably be around $13-14. She got them from another friend who works for Nestle. Apparently the customer/s didn’t like them because of the jar design; I think they got consumers complaining about it. I can see why from just looking at it the jar is too top heavy and would be hard to grip (esp for small hands like mine) when opening it. I got two. The jar don’t bother me I will just put it into my coffee canister once I open it. Also score a bag of powdered milk, also from Nestle, DH use powdered milk all the time for making yogurt. I will give her $20 for all of them next time I see her. It will come out of the grocery budget.

COSTCO

August 9th, 2012 at 07:52 am

I’m starting to think about getting a Costco membership again, ours expired 6 months ago. We are running out of things that we stocked up 6 months ago so I think it is time to go there again. It cost $60 p/a for a membership here. We are doing well with our grocery budget this year so I should be able to get the money out from that budget.

Not quite a NSD today because I asked DH to get me some strepsile lollies. I run out last night. They help with my coughing fit that seems to come on at night. I’ve been getting this itchy throat lately (it has been a week now) and they help to numb it.

Aldi and cleaning

August 7th, 2012 at 03:48 am

DH stopped by at ALdi last night to get milk, muesli, can of tomatoes, chickpeas and other pantry items. All up he spent $27.60.

I forgot to mention here that I received my handheld steam cleaner that I bought online few weeks ago now. I got two and I will give one to my mum as part of her birthday present later this month. I used it today to clean the filter of the range hood (exhaust fan above the stove). It worked really well the grease just got blasted off. I used to have to boil water to clean it and took a bit of time scrubbing. It really cut down the cleaning time and I think I can get away only cleaning it twice a month instead of every few days. Cleaning it every few days helped cut down on the build-up because once there are a bit of grease build up it took a lot more effort to clean it but I think with the steam cleaner it cut through it so much easier.

Anyway, hoping today will be a NSD. Just doing a bit of cleaning today, nice weather outside so I might do a bit more gardening later, I did a bit yesterday too.

Hungry Jack's

June 2nd, 2012 at 06:20 am

DH got coupons for Hungry Jack's (also known as Burger King in the US), he came home last night with two whopper burgers and two small fries. It only cost him $4 for the lot, normally just one whopper burger is around $4.25(?). So he was really keen to get them for dinner, the problem however is that you are only allowed one coupon per visit so ended up going to two places. He got one from the one near the train station where he leaves the car and he then drove up to the one near our place (it's couple minutes out of the way). I guess DH really want to have them for dinner, I didn't mind, I didn't have to cook.

Pizza for dinner

May 27th, 2012 at 12:11 pm

Too tired to cook tonight, so we got some pizza. Spent $17.50 for two large size, plenty of left over for lunch for tomorrow.

We finished building the wall today. We had to go to the hardware store to get some more supply that we couldn't get yesterday (I think we spent about $30, I left the receipt in the car). The store yesterday didn't have what we needed. There are still a bit to do, we still need to do plastering, put up the cornice, a bit of tiling and painting. I'm hoping to finish it by next weekend.

Both DH and I are a bit sore today. I actually decided to put some money into the exercise challenge, with all the hammering and sawing that we did today it feel like we have been exercising. (I forgot to mention that I deposited $31 on Friday into the xmas fund/exercise challenge, its 4 weeks worth of exercise).

I accidently hit my thumb when I was trying to hammer a nail and a blood blister developed. I pricked it because I don't like looking at it. It was tiny and it didn't really hurt.

I also forgot to mentioned yesterday that we went to Aldi yesterday for grocery shopping, got more than what we need for this week. We are now about $10 over on our grocery for this month, it's not too bad.

Yesterday, I got another nasty virus in my computer, it happened while I was reading some blog (not SA). DH is fixing it right now, hope to get it back soon. I got few spending to record in my spreadsheet which is in that computer. Luckily, I've backed up about a week ago, so if DH can't get it back it will not be hard to update my spreadsheet.

Pomegranate and building a new wall

May 26th, 2012 at 11:07 am

I bought a couple of pomegranate last Sunday at the fruit shop. It is something that we don't find here that often, so I don't really know what to do with it except eat it as it is. Few days ago I Google it and found a nice recipe that I can use it with. I found a simple recipe for a quinoa and pomegranate salad. I haven't had time to make it until tonight. Tonight was the best time to have it because we were too busy removing the old door in the toilet and building a new wall to close it off. Now that the light switch has been moved next to the new door we can finally do this. We should be able to put up the new plasterboard tomorrow.

Anyway the salad was really good and it took no time to make.

Dry Cleaning, Pots and Painting

May 20th, 2012 at 01:43 am

Yesterday DH took some of his suit to the dry cleaners.

Also bought couple of ceramic pots, they were 50% off. I will use them for my orchids that need re-planting. We also got some towel rack and hand towel holder for 30% off. I will put them in the ensuite bathroom.

Today I’m planning to paint the bedroom ceiling we should have done it last year when we renovated it. Oh well, it wouldn’t take long. I want to get it done this weekend because I got the electrician to coming next week to install a ceiling fan. We need to get some plastic sheeting to cover the furniture.

We are getting ready to go for a run and will get the plastic sheeting on the way home and then paint the ceiling this afternoon.

Dinner tonight

May 18th, 2012 at 07:35 am

Tonight our football team is playing against the team that beat us in the grand final last season. DH and I are really looking forward to watching it live on tv tonight. I thought it would be a good time to have sausage roll and homemade hamburger. Good food to eat in front of the tv.

DH will have to stop by at Aldi tonight to get burger buns, milk and other things we will need to get from Aldi. This will save us a trip there tomorrow. We will only need to go to the market tomorrow for fruits, vegetables and maybe some chicken if it is good price.

I didn’t do much cleaning today just cleaned all the cabinet doors in the kitchen and also cleaned the microwave, it only took a quick wipe it was pretty clean to start with.

I spent a bit of time knitting today I decided to bring out my knitting basket. I’m about to finish one that I started last year. I tend to get excited starting one but fizzle out towards the end. But it is good hobby to do while I watch the stock market take a dive today.

Mother's Day

May 13th, 2012 at 12:37 pm

We got to my mum’s place as she was leaving to go to church. We spent the next 3 hours changing her kitchen tap to a new one that we got her for mother’s day. For the last two years she has been telling me how she wanted to get a higher/taller tap so that she can wash her big pots easier. The one she had was a really low profile which was a pain to wash anything tall, plus her sinks are quiet small so anything big like pots are hassle to wash. And in the last few months she has been complaining about it needing a new washing. The dripping has been getting worst every time we go over there.

It would not have taken as long but the one we got her was way too big for her sink, it looked ridiculous. I don’t know what I was thinking when I got it last week. I didn’t realised how much smaller her sink is, it’s only half the size of our one. So DH and I had to go back to a hardware store to get another one. The one we got her didn’t have the vegetable sprayer part so it turnout to be almost half the price. My brother was meant to put in some money for it, I told him to just give mum the cash which he did. In the end mum was very happy.

Now we got a spare tap, we can either return it or put it in our kitchen. DH wouldn’t mind changing our current one. I don’t mind keeping it either. Our current one is getting old and there is always a paddle of water around the base of it, so there is a leak somewhere. Anyway, it is something we will think about in the next few days.

Last Night

May 11th, 2012 at 03:35 am

DH went straight to his doctor’s appointment at 7pm last night. He managed to get a back to back appointment so he won’t need to go back tonight. They cancelled his Friday appointment earlier this week because the doctor will not be in. According to the admin lady he was not supposed to do that, some problem with processing Medicare twice in one day. Anyway, one of the doctors said it was fine. In the end it didn’t cost a thing and DH’s uvula is almost better and the moles on his back are all normal. The doctor checked about a dozen of them. I’ve been telling him to see a doctor about his moles for months, now I can relax about that. Living in Australia mole check is one of those things that we need to care about.

We didn’t have dinner until DH got home around 8:30pm, a lot later than normal for us. We both didn’t have much to eat.

Also last night I paid the gas bill and AMEX. I’m not looking forward to paying next month’s credit cards. it is going to be a lot more than the last few months. The car service bill would be in it.

Today should be NSD.

Today

May 7th, 2012 at 08:09 am

Today my legs are killing me. It was painful trying to get out of bed this morning. I can't believe that jog yesterday was going to be this painful. I actually didn't even jog all the way through. I walked some parts of it, while DH jogged ahead and would came back to me. I'm not a runner that's for sure. I get bad stitch after 5 minutes of running. DH used to compete nationally when he was younger, as a sprinter and hurdler. I think he gets bored coz I'm too slow. I've spend the day icing and heating it, and also I've jump on the exercise bike for few minutes doing it very slowly. It is feeling a lot better this afternoon.

I’m thinking of making rice pilaf for dinner tonight. I've not made this before but always wanted to try it. I got a little bit of chorizo that I think would be nice in it.

Update...

May 3rd, 2012 at 02:30 am

The cheesecake was really good, it did not crack at all, and that was my biggest worry about it. We had some after dinner. DH took another slice to work today. He was really happy coz I rarely make sweets and he loves them. He always claims that he has two stomachs, one is just for dessert. We only tend to have them when we are having a party or eating out.

Good news this morning our mortgage will be going down 40 basis points (0.4%) effective 11 of May. Not as good as 0.5% but not as bad as another bank who only lower it 0.32%, and some still haven’t made any announcement. They all want to keep some for themselves. And of course they lower the saving rate by the full 0.5%. They don’t want to leave anyone out, got to screw everyone right? And just to make it worst one of the bank that have not made a move yet just posted yet another record profit yesterday, we are talking billions. Even as a shareholder I don’t like it. Okay, enough of my ranting.

DH dropped off the car at the shop today, DH doesn’t have a clue how much it will cost. I think they will give him a call about it later.

For the first time this year I put on the ducted gas heater this morning and it smell a bit and there were dusts coming out in every outlet. I turned it off right away. I will need to vacuum the filters in it but I’m procrastinating.

Doctor Visit

May 2nd, 2012 at 01:07 pm

DH left work early today to go see a doctor about his uvula. They have been sore since our dentist visit on Saturday. He said that the dentist accidently hit it and now it's swollen. He tried gargling with salt water last night it helped but decided to still see the GP. The doctor visit is free but the medicine cost him $12.99. And he will have to go back next week for a follow up.

While at the doctor he also asked the doctor to have a look his moles. She suggested to him to see another doctor in the same clinic who specialise on it. He has some sort of machine that he uses. He will now have to go back to the clinic twice next week. He couldn't book the same day but he managed to book for 7pm for both so he won't need to leave work early.

Car Shopping

April 24th, 2012 at 03:06 am

I spent about 2 hours last night looking at used car online. It is not for us it is for my mum, 2 weeks ago today she had an accident and her car is no more. Her car insurance provided her a rental car but had to return it yesterday. So now she needs a new car. I found a couple last night and we will go tomorrow to have a look at it.

While looking a car for her I kind of had a quick look at one for us. Couple of years ago when our car was not doing too well, when we thought that we might have to get a new one, we went and had a look at some new cars. The one that we like is a lot cheaper now, it's great to know. Our car right now is still pretty good (knock on wood), we did spent over $1000 to get it fix. I'm hoping that it will last for another 3 years or so, when we hopefully pay off the house by then. There were also a lot older car that I won't mind get as a second car. But I don't know I'm still not that keen on having two cars.

------------------------

On another news, I mentioned a week ago here that we got invited to a wedding for next month. We opted not to attend but we will send a gift. I actually got some idea the other night of what gift we will send when I was going through websites that sell gift baskets. I think a basket with a nice bottle of champagne and other goodies would be nice. Unfortunately they don't have a gift registry, that would have been a lot easier. We are not going because the wedding is held about 2-3 hours away. I don't think they will mind, I've never meet the bride to be and I haven't seen/spoken to my friend for about 2 years. I think a lot of our friends won't be able to make it either. I hope they have a lovely day.

And oh yesterday was a NSD, for real this time.

Gift money and mobile phone

April 18th, 2012 at 04:02 am

I still don't know what to do with my $100 that I got from the in-laws yesterday. My mother inlaw already asked me last night about it. There are a couple of things that I've been wanting to get. I've been thinking of getting an ipod touch for years now but because I got the ipod shuffle (which we got years ago for free), I still have doubt whether it is necessary. And the price is still too high for me. I know it's funny that we can spend a lot of money on dinner out, I obviously put more value on that, but could spend years trying to figure this one out.

Another thing I could get instead is an iphone or some other smart phone, DH actually suggested this. This will be a lot more expensive and plus I still really love my really really old phone. I don't want to spend more on phone bill just because of the new phone. So far this year we've only spent $45 on both our mobile phones, and this is including the $15 that I just put into my phone the other day, I don't think this will be possible if I get a new phone. Last year we spent less than $100 on both our mobile phones! If anyone deserves a new phone its DH, his phone is as old as mine and it is more banged up. And he gets laughed at work for it, I've told him that he could get a new one if he wants but I think he wants to wait when the Samsung s2?? gets cheaper. And he doesn't like the idea that the battery on those new phones don't last long and that you pretty much have to recharge them everynight. He has problem with it now when he only has to deal with it once a week. Another thing that DH don't like about it is how people get so addicted to those phones, and I do too. Great example of it was last night, the couple next to our table were just crazy with their phones. The place was really romantic and the lighting was really dim but you could see bright lights coming from their phones from the other side of the room. Although it helped a lot when I was trying to find my way back to our table when I was coming from the bathroom, it was like a beacon. They kept looking at their phones every couple of minutes, that I started thinking that maybe they were texting each other from across the table lol. This compare to us where DH didn't even bother bring his phone, knowing that I was taking mine, we didn't need two. I did get a couple of text at dinner from friends wishing me happy birthday, I didn't respond to them until we were driving home.

SO after about 3 years we still haven't made a decision about getting a new phone, eventually we will have to get new ones.

Last night

April 18th, 2012 at 02:39 am

My birthday dinner last night was fantastic, I ordered everything that I like. In the end it cost $151.50. This was DH present to me. He also got me an indoor plant and a coffee cup with our footy team logo on it. I bought my self a guitar few weeks ago as a birthday present to myself, it was only $50 at Aldi.

Another year gone.

I was feeling a lot better last night, no heartburn at all. I slept like a baby last night.

Going out tonight to my fave restaurant

April 17th, 2012 at 04:38 am

DH went to Aldi after work yesterday, we needed milk and he also got a bag of muesli for him to take to work. He keeps it in his desk because he has breakfast at work. He also went to the pharmacy to get more allergy tablets.

Around 3 o'clock this morning, I woke up with a really bad heartburn. I can't remember ever having heartburn before so I thought I was having a heart attack. I don't really know why that happened I didn't eat anything I haven't eaten before. Maybe I'm having some internal anxiety about getting old. haha. I don't think I am really, I don't mind getting old at all. ANd really mid 30s is no that old.

Today is my birthday and DH is taking me to my favourite resturant tonight, I'm so looking forward to it. The start of the day hasn't been that great with not getting much rest because of the heartburn, I couldn't get back to sleep until around 4:30 and then got woken up couple of hours later when DH got up. ANd just when I was falling asleep again my aunty from Canada called to say happy birthday. Then a constant stream of sms followed and more phone calls from the in-laws, nephews and niece. It was nice and all I just wished it was a little bit later.

Just got the mail, got a birthday card with $100 in it from DH's parents. Also got a dividend statement for $21.60 to be deposited in our bank account.

Nice Day

April 16th, 2012 at 08:06 am

We been having a nice autumn weather here for a week now, but I think that might change tonight. I can see dark clouds forming.

I did a bit of gardening this morning. We got a kaffir lime plant few weeks ago and I have been preparing the soil at the spot the I want to plant it at since then. I've been putting kitchen scraps in there and it has now attracted some worms. I'm hoping, if the weather is good, to plant it some time this weekend. I love to use the leaves for a lot of the Thai dishes that we like. My Thai friend got me addicted to it.

Got a couple of bills from the mail today. Home phone for $14.95, due on the 24th. It gets directly debited from our bank account on that day so we dont need to do anything, I just need to post it on my excel spreadsheet. The other is for Mastercard, not due until early next month. I'm happy coz it is almost half to the previous bill that I paid last week. Only $256.45!

I'm planning to make stirfry for dinner tonight and might also make some rice paper rolls.

I need to do the ironing but have been procastinating, I might do it tonight when Revenge is on. I just don't like ironing, it is probably one of those choirs that I would be willing to pay someone to do it, if we had the money. I really don't have much to iron, about half a basket full, I just hate it.

Visiting mum

April 15th, 2012 at 09:53 am

We went to mum's place today to drop off our bread maker. She's borrowing it to help her mix the dough/pastry for her empanadas. She's been making a lot of those lately, few of her friends have been asking her to make it for them lately. I think she sells them for $1 each, not bad and she loves to cook, it's a hobby for her that and gardening.

It is impossible to go to mum's without getting served some food. Today we had lunch, she had to quickly make fried chickens and spring rolls (she just got home from church so she didn't have anything prepared). I helped her with the dough using the bread maker. She already made the filling early this morning before church.

While there we did more work on fixing couple of cracks on her ceiling. Finally finished one of them, painted and all. Should be able to finish the other one next time. DH and I also cleaned up afterwards, vacuuming all the floors.

We came home with some empanadas and the leftover fried chickens (she always make extra for us to take home), more than enough for dinner.

Today was another NSD. And dinner is done Smile

Mail

April 13th, 2012 at 05:19 am

Two posts in one day.

Just got the mail. One is a new replacement Credit card for DH's mastercard. We have been waiting for this the current one is expiring end of the month. We been getting emails already for some of our bills (in particular mobile and voip phone) for the new expiry date. DH will have to update those this weekend.

This new card has the Pay Pass chip on it, a bit scary that you can now use this card without signing or having a code. We will just have to make sure that we keep the available credit low.

The other mail, is a wedding invitation for next month. I don't know the bride but the groom to be is a friend of mine who I went to the same university with. WOuld love to go but the actual wedding is about 2-3 hours away, which means we will have to stay overnight since the receiption will go on until around 11pm. DH and I will make the decision this weekend, I might look into how much accommodation will be. If we can't go then we will definitely send a gift.

Christmas tree

December 8th, 2011 at 05:25 am

I finally finish putting up the christmas tree, it only took me 3 days (and it is not a big tree), I keep getting distracted. Actually it is more like I can't really be bother with it. I been too busy doing work, I'm really motivated with it at the moment. Anyway, I went for silver and purple colour scheme christmas tree this year.

Financially, I haven't spend much for christmas at all this year. We decided to just give cash to our nephews and nieces, they are in another state so it is easier that way and actually prefer it because they get so much toys and clothes already. ANd the rest would just get gift cards. And I already got my mum something last month. So I will get the gift cards this weekend and send them next week.

I got plans to finally venture out to go shopping this Saturday. I plan to go to Costco, I think our membership expire this month (but I'm not 100% sure) and I don't think we will renew it anytime soon. We haven't been there for few months now and I don't think it is worth renewing it right now. So this weekend in my shopping list is gift cards and another gift for my brother's birthday this weekend.

We will be having lunch at my mum's place for my brother's birthday this Sunday. Also christmas will be held at my mum's because our little convection oven will not be big enough to cook everything we want. Everything is plan and the beauty is I don't have to do much but I will give my mum some money to go towards buying for the food. My mum loves to cook and she is an amazing cook so she loves this plan.

I already have a frozen turkey, I will either give it to mum to cook or I will cook it here, I think it will just fit in the little oven, so maybe I will still do that.

ANd ohh we've had 4 NSD in the row here and today could be the fifth if I can just hold off my pizza craving at the moment. This and with low spending in the last couple of weekend has been really good. Although I'm pretty sure this coming weekend is going to be costly.

New glasses

October 30th, 2011 at 01:13 am

I know I said yesterday that we need to make sure that we don't spend unnecessary money in the next 3 days. Anyway, it seems that I lied...lol

I bit the bullet yesterday and bought new glasses, 2 of them. I was walking pass the optometrist yesterday while grocery shopping at Aldi, I thought I should check it out. Few months ago I got a letter from my private health insurance about a special deal they have with this optometrist (it's a chain). Basically, I got the frames for 2 for 1.

They had opening for me to see the optometrist so I got my eyes check (no cost, covered by Medicare). Apparently, my eyes are getting a bit better, ie my current glasses right now is stronger than I need, but my stigmatism (I really don't know what this means, something about the way the light hits my eye that cause me a headache) has gotten worst. This is way I have been getting a headache due to sore eyes.

My current pair is more than 5 years old, it is still good, in fact the optometrist said I could keep wearing them if I want but I'm hoping the new glasses will help stop the headaches and there are some small scratches on the lense so really the lenses will need change.

I asked how much to just replace my current lenses, it was about the same as getting 2 new ones.

In the end it cost me $149.40 out of pocket, it would have been $334 but my health insurance paid for the rest. One of the glasses will have a uv tint, so I will use this as a sunglasses, good time for summer for those days that I don't like to wear my contacts. The other one will be for my everyday use, it will all have all the extra crap on it.

Pre paid Visa

September 29th, 2011 at 04:14 am

Just recieved a $200 pre-paid Visa in the mail. I forgotten about this. This was a manufacture's rebate/promotion when we bought our new air conditioner two months ago. It is something I didn't rely on and so have never taken it off the purchase price (just in case it never eventuate). Anyway it is here and I think it will be perfect to use when we are overseas. We definitely have more than enough for our holiday spending now.

-----------------------------------
Today should be another 3 NSD in the row, tomorrow the quartely property tax is due. We have been very good with our entertainment spending this month. It has been the lowest this year. And it just really happen, we haven't force it on anything like that. I think because of the upcoming holiday and a couple of big celebration coming up that we are not craving for it.

This weekend we will be celebrating our anniversary, we've decided to go out for breakfast (a buffet breakfast in one of the big hotel in the city). We decided to go out in the morning instead of for dinner because we want to be home by 2 o'clock in the afternoon to watch our team play in the Australian football grand final. We will be drinking during the game so we most likely won't be able to drive anywhere for dinner that night. Also it will be too crowded around in the city after the game and I don't want to be there.

Banana bread

January 14th, 2011 at 02:13 am

Yesterday a couple of bananas wasn't going to survive much longer so I made banana bread out of them.

Today I am currently making chicken stock out of the leftover chicken roast I made few days ago.

Yesterday was a NSD and today could be also if we don't go grocery shopping. We are running out of milk so we definitely need to go get some either tonight or tomorrow. Maybe if it stops raining tonight we will go.

Making a change this year.

January 10th, 2011 at 06:12 am

This year we decided to go back using cash only on Groceries, Entertainment, and our Allowances. I think by using cash we get a better hold of our expenses. We used to only used cash on these things but last couple of years we stopped, I don't really know why? I guess, it is a bit of a hassle going to ATM to get the cash. It is a lot easier to just use the cards, and that is the problem it is too easy to spend the money without thinking about it.
