*Property Rate bill just came last week. We normally pay this quarterly (and this bill should have been due 1st of Oct) but now they have allowed a monthly direct debit payment for 10 months starting from Sept to Jun. So the yearly amount will be divided by ten, I know confusing. DH is currently filling out the form for the monthly direct debit payment this weekend.

The government here encourages "high" earners (I think $80K or above so not really high)to get private health insurance by taxing them more (medicare levy). SO sometimes in this case it can be cheaper to get the basic private health insurance than paying for the tax. Also when you turn 31 years old they increase the premuim for insurance so it is better to get it when you turn 30 (it goes up as you get older).
