Annual bills and the Mortgage

January 18th, 2017 at 03:53 am

We just paid the Home and Car Insurance for the year all up it was $1325.09. I have always liked how we pay these couple of big expenses at the start of the year, good to get it out of the way.

This waking up at 5am on weekdays is hard getting used to. We did it 3 out of 5 last week and so far this week 1 out of 3. We got woken up by the doggy at 2am this morning and DH had problem getting back to sleep so we decided to sleep in until 7. I actually feel more tired today that I slept in. I tend to have more energy when I get up at 5 and I end up getting so much more work done. Work in progress, hopefully another month and it will get a lot easier.

DH got paid yesterday, he put another $2K into the mortgage and 2 weeks ago he paid $1200. We are currently now just under $3K. 3 more weeks it will be all gone!

Are you having a count down for the mortgage? Do you plan a mortgage burning ceremony? We were so thrilled to have our mortgage gone we took pictures of the outside entry, asked neighbours to take photos of us on the driveway with our odd steps to the door. They didn't know what we were celebrating but came in for cookies and champagne like wine. I didn't think I'd be that excited when the final payment went through. I was even more excited 6 weeks later when we got the paperwork. It was the most expensive items we have ever made.

I like snafu's story. I still remember how pleased we both were when our mortgage was paid. I still smile thinking about it.

The whole thing for me was a little anti-climactic but I remember riding my bike to the bank in town and I enjoyed sharing my excitement with the bank teller, who was very envious. Smile

That's awesome Sheila! Snafu, that's a great story, wish we would have done that! And Patient saver, our bank teller said "must be nice!" when we made our final payment! No, it was not nice scrimping, saving and going without to pay it off ;-) but so glad we did it!

Great story Snafu. Some of our family and friends already know that we are about to pay off our mortgage. We will most likely go out for dinner to celebrate but nothing too crazy but we will also most likely go on a holiday overseas later this year.

Fern I just got this great image of you riding your bike to the bank to pay off your mortgage. We deal with everything about our mortgage online so we don't even know what is going to happen. I think for the final payment we will just let them take the money out from our bank account. And I guess we will wait to get that letter from them in the future.

We found the best price for us and opted for the highest excess. Our car is 17 years old no need to insure it for too much we can probably should only do 3rd party insurance for it.
