Daily Update

February 4th, 2009 at 01:46 am

Well DH ended up getting some gas for the car, so it was not a NSD yesterday.

Mortgage payment should come out today, it would be around $950. Hopefully this will get down to around $850 next month (might even be lower b/c of the shorter month - Feb). I can't wait!

We are just waiting to see if the stimulus package will come through. The most I'm excited about it the proposed free insulation, I just hope we can get it since we are planning to get this done this year anyway. Less money for us to spend. I really think these type of scheme is better than just giving people cash. It provides jobs and it's good for the environment. I really think the best solution is to create more jobs, if people have job security then consumer confidence should go up. This should be the best time to up grade our really old infrastructure. Can you believe that there were over 1000 train cancelled during last week's heatwave b/c the tracks and the trains couldn't cope. What about solving our water problem? And other problems that should been solved 10 years ago.

Anyway that's enough about that for now. Have a nice day everyone.

i just wrote about the second stimulus package in my blog too!
i am interested in the environmental insulation thing - it comes at a good time seeing as we're just buying a house! i completely forgot to blog about that bit.
atleast they are creating some more jobs with the 20 000 community and defence housing projects Smile i can't complain about the extra cash - we will put it to good use. and the small business help is good too. my parents home business just got 20% off their tax instalment this quarter, which is actually coming at a great time because i am stressing about paying the massive tax bill in march! woo! Smile

This is definitely better scheme than the last one because of the potential jobs it will create but really this should have been done earlier. Don't get me wrong I think the pensioners should get more money but a one off payment I don't think was enough. I think they need an increase on their fornightly pensions. I'm not sure if this is true (and I'm sure in majority of cases people spent their stimulus package reasonably) but it was on the news that a lot of it was spent on the pokies. I guess that helped the gambling industry.

Oh getting cash, I won't say no to that for sure! Smile But b/c we are worried about the future we will probably just put it in the EF or in the mortgage.

you have a good point on the gambling and pensions increases. uni students struggle greatly too - i am at the age where a lot of my friends are struggling with their centrelink payments and so on. (to recieve austudy you have to earn less than $236 a fortnight, and you get $450 a fortnight from centrelink - honestly, is that enough to live on?)
as for the stimulus package, i was thinking gift cards would be an alright idea. i wouldn't oppose something like that if they thought up some type of scheme that was fair to all businesses...
arent they meant to be doing that for the baby bonus as well?
