Another trip to the doctor

September 8th, 2011 at 03:11 am

Last month I saw the doctor twice. It seems like DH and I have been going to the doctors a lot lately. DH got his ultrasound result for his hip the other day and it is some kind of blood clot (not the scary type) that will just go away by itself. But unfortunately his eye will need surgery, the antiboiotics didn't work. He has to go see an eye specialist. It will just be very minor procedure.

Tonight we got another doctor's appointment, we are going to see the doctor about getting shots for our trip. I'm not looking forward to it. Frown I don't how much it will cost, I won't be suprise if it cost aroung $100 each. This will come out of the holiday fund.

Last night we went crazy and got some KFC. DH also paid for gas bill last night.

I work in many 3rd world countries and wonder what shots are being recommended by your physician and public health board. 60 minutes ran a segment on the pros and cons of 'preventative' injections and their conclusions were not as expected. Unless you are well off the beaten track or working with Ebola/Leprosy groups or something highly contagious...many are just painful both physically and financially.

It's funny coz last year when we went to Fiji, the doctor said that we didn't need to bother with shots. I did however got the flu shot but DH didn't coz he missed it at work when it was given for free. The normal flu shots are given here in Australia for free or you can get the one that I got for $25.

I'm not quite sure what we will be getting because the sheet of paper we got from last month is for Vietnam (this was before we decided not to go to Vietnam), he gave us the one for Vietnam because it required one extra shot to that for Thailand.

I don't think if we really need any of it since we are still young and in good health. But then maybe it is better to be safe than sorry, especially since I know someone right now in hospital in Asia (different country) for dengue fever and seem to be having complications. She is from there and was staying with family.

Anyway, we will be seeing a different doctor tonight so we will see what his opinion will be.
