Somewhat unexpected

May 27th, 2011 at 12:50 am

DH found out yesterday how much pay rise he will be getting. He came home very happy last night that I he even stopped by at the florist to get me flowers. I don't expect flowers all the time but once in awhile is a nice suprise. At this stage I was really happy to be getting a suprise and then he told me that he will be getting an extra $75 a day (before tax). I was estatic by then. We were hoping for about half of this, if that. This will be for 15 months contract. 9% of it will go to his compulsory retirement fund. And then the dreaded tax will be taken out. This should leave us around $30-$35 extra per day, so about $600-700 per month. Coincidently, this is about the amount our mortgage monthly payment have increase to. Sweeeeet.

Of course, since this is only a 15-month contract we still need to do our best to keep saving or paying extra to our mortgage. At this stage pre-paying the mortgage is our best bet, with the interest rate keep on increasing we really need to get rid of it.

DH's project however has already been funded for another 1 year after his 15-month contract finish. So he should most likely stay at this job for a bit longer. And then after that they can always ask for more funds. Who knows what can happen then.

Yay!! Congratulations; you can buy a lobster dinner every day with the extra money. Wink

hahaha... I wish. Even if I could afford it, I can only have shellfish like lobsters and prawns once in a while because I'm allergic. I have to take antihistamine before I have some, which is a pain.
